The term is used a lot lately and it is basically a food that has a string of amazing nutrient properties. We all want extra vitamins and nutrients in our diet and eating a super food can help pack a vitamin punch quicker. With winter looming, good nutrition is even more important for fighting off viruses. There are many super foods out there but let’s learn a little more about three of them; Chia, Quinoa and Blueberries.
Chia
Adored by ancient South American civilizations for its powers of strength, chia (pronounced Chee-ah) has been grown for use as food and medicine for thousands of years. Chia seeds have 6 times more calcium than milk, 7 times more vitamin c than oranges, 3 times more iron than spinach, a great source of vitamin B and so many more great properties. This little seed is perfect for vegans and those on strict diets as it provides many essential nutrients. There are many ways to enjoy the benefits of Chia seed but the easiest way is to sprinkle it on your cereal or on your yoghurt.

Garden to your hearts delight
It’s that time of year again when I manage to get out in the garden and see what the summer has done to destroy and or encourage my plants to stay with the family for another year. The summer we had in Melbourne gave weather that was either very hot or very wet. Therefore there have been some plants that have curled up and said “no, I can’t survive another year here” and others that have rejoiced in the almost tropical (I wish!) environment. Read more…
Cute Kids Craft for Mothers Day- Guest Post
Since having kids I’ve noticed that grandparents favourite presents are ones the grandchildren have made for them. With Mother’s Day looming it was time to crack out the art and craft supplies to put the kids to work!
Our present this year is a decorated can and a cute fingerpainted card. My children have taken a liking to Cadbury hot chocolate on the cold mornings Melbourne is experiencing lately so we used the empty cans we have from that. The cans have no sharp edges and a resealable lid, they’ll be perfect for filling with homemade treats (Search “5110050″ at Coles online for Cadbury hot chocolate). You can use any can you have handy, just check for sharp edges and cover any with some thick tape (eg. electrical or ducted). Read more…
5 Things Not To Buy Mum For Mother’s Day.
We love our mums no matter what kind of quirks they have. Right? They cared for us, cleaned our clothes, fed us, bought us treats (only on occasions), let us play with friends and make messy mud pies, fed us well, encouraged us to aim for the stars, paid for our ballet lessons and put up with our teenage mood swings, crazy hair dye jobs and boyfriends they may not have approved of (you’ve totally moved on to greener pastures now haven’t you)?
You probably should get your mother something that she will like and will make her feel special this mother’s day shouldn’t you? Yes you should. (This is your mother speaking)
Here are some things we recommend that you DON’T buy from Coles online for your mum this mother’s day. Read more…
