Lunch Box Dare – Banana Tattoos
This is a dare…. and a fun idea. We dare you to do this for your childs lunch box and see what reaction you get when they come home from school.
Tattooing a banana is easy and will put a big smile and perhaps a confused look on your little ones face when they open to their lunch box to find their banana is not as it should be.
It still tastes the same but is a little more artistic.
We also have a little competition to find the best banana tattoo artists so keep on reading to find out how you can enter.
You will need:
- A Banana
-
A sharp (but not too sharp) scratching implement. I used a chopstick but a toothpick would work.
-
Imagination

1. Think about what you are going to draw on the banana. Will you write a message or will you draw a picture of your family pet or just some cool patterns? I started with some cool patterns.I’m not the best artist so I’m sure you will do a much nicer job.
2. Scratch the skin of the banana quite hard but not so the skin breaks. Draw your designs and leave it over night or for a day in a hidden place (so your little ones don’t find it and ruin their lunch box surprise). When you come back you will find that the scratched part of the banana has turned black and made your patterns show up. The actual fruit inside will still be lovely and yellow.

3. Admire your handy work and pop it into your childs lunch box.
4. When they come home from school see what their reaction was. I bet they thought it was awesome!
5. COMPETITION: Take a photo of your tattooed banana design (make sure you follow the instructions above) and email it with your name and a short explanation/story about your design by Tuesday June 5th at 5pm. We will choose the most creative banana tattoo as the winner on Wednesday June 6th and will post all of the photos to the Coles online Facebook page. The winner will receive $50 Coles online shopping credit.
Competition is now over and Patricia has been announced as the Banana Tattoo Artist Extraordinare with her design. Thanks to all who entered! You can see the gallery of entries at the Coles online Facebook page.
