Snickerdoodles. What are snickerdoodles? That is exactly the question I had been asking for years. I had come across lots of pictures and recipes for these mysterious cookies on various American websites but had never actually ever tried or seen one in real life. What kind of name is snickerdoodle anyway?
I emailed my American friends to ask what on earth is so great about snickerdoodles. Cinnamon and sugar is the answer! Everything in America tastes and smells like cinnamon – there is cinnamon flavoured gum even! I can’t get enough of cinnamon flavoured things.

Mince pies are one of my favourite seasonal indulgences. My mum would always bake a giant container of them each year to wrap and give to people who would visit. Those mince pies would silently call me to sneak into the kitchen and eat one…. or two… sometimes three. Mum would end up finding out that I had eaten them when there were crumbs on the couch and the lid not put back on the container properly. Do you like rainbows? They are pretty tasty. I think that rainbow cupcakes have got to be one of the best foods on the planet. A) because it’s a tasty cupcake and B) because it’s colourful rainbow! From the outside they look like just another normal cupcake but take a bite and BAM it’s totally magical and happy inside. I am yet to find a pot of gold inside one as yet however.

My friends and I were planning to go on an outdoor adventure a few weeks ago however the dismal Melbourne weather ruined our plans. So I got thinking, what could we do together where we would all be dry and wouldn’t get blown away by the wind? A tea party in front of the fire! But what would I make?
I decided that Pear and ginger cake would be a winner as it would go nicely with tea and cold days. What made it even better is that it is an incredibly simple recipe. Thankfully it turned out well and everyone loved it!

When I have friends over to dinner I always try to bake hot dinner rolls. I find that by accompanying a simply meal with dinner rolls it turns a normal meal into something just a little bit special. The kids also love helping out making the bread.
Making bread it quite time consuming, but you can always do other things while the dough is rising.
