How to keep your kids lunch box interesting
It’s that time of year again when kids go back to school to learn new things and play with friends. Parents, on the other hand, get to put their creative hats on to come up with food for the lunch box that their little students will eat and be nourished by. Well don’t worry because we have some easy ideas that you can use this year that your kids will love and won’t break the bank.
It is important to mix things up a bit to make sure your kids get some variety and don’t get bored of the same vegemite sandwiches every day. Healthy food such as apples and salad is generally cheap to pop in the lunch box and of course nutritious.
Beer can chicken – for your inner bogan
Is tender juicy chicken your favourite thing? How about beer? My friend Julia’s signature dish is beer can chicken. That’s right! A chicken with a can of beer stuck in its… umm… ”cavity”. It’s very un-ladylike. My friend is not a bogan, however she does have Jim Beam car matts that she swears came with the car when she bought it.
This recipe is so simple and makes the chicken moist and tender. Perfect for Australia day, BBQ, party with your mates or just when you want to see a chicken with a beer can holding it up in an odd way. It’s certain to bring a few giggles to your party.

‘Av some Avocado Dip
Do you love Avocados? We are proud to say that this year at Coles our avocados are helping to support Make-A-Wish® Australia. The funds raised will go towards granting the wishes of children and young people with life-threatening medical conditions.
As a child my mum would make avocado dip for me and I remember eating it in my lunch box at school. Avocados are very healthy too. Did you know that avocados contain the most protein of any fruit, and more potassium than bananas? Avocados are high in monounsaturated fat which is the good kind of fat and is great for babies to eat. They also contain folate, potassium and antioxidants which help to keep your skin beautiful and make you happy. Read more…
How to spice up your pre-made lunches
Ever since I can remember I have been making my lunch at night for the following day. When I turned 12 I started making my own school lunches with my older sister. If we were left to our own devices we probably would have packed lollies, chips and donuts every day, but much to our disappointment Mum had carefully pre-selected some healthy options for us to use. This was definitely a good thing in hindsight, because now as an adult I try to make myself a healthy lunch each night for work the next day. Read more…
