It’s that time of year again when kids go back to school to learn new things and play with friends. Parents, on the other hand, get to put their creative hats on to come up with food for the lunch box that their little students will eat and be nourished by. Well don’t worry because we have some easy ideas that you can use this year that your kids will love and won’t break the bank.
It is important to mix things up a bit to make sure your kids get some variety and don’t get bored of the same vegemite sandwiches every day. Healthy food such as apples and salad is generally cheap to pop in the lunch box and of course nutritious.

My kids enjoy most vegetables, but the poor old zucchini doesn’t rate highly with them. On the other hand my husband and I enjoy the refreshing taste. So when I’ve over estimated the number of zucchinis needed for the week I quite often make this zucchini and carrot slice.
It’s turned into one of our family favourites (along with Mini Quiches). It is one of those dishes that is good hot or cold teamed with a quick salad, yummy to pop in the kids lunch box or for me to take for lunch to work the next day. Read more…

It is now 4 weeks into the two legged kid starting school and mum, the non-cook has not been very creative when it comes to the lunches!
There are some great snack packs that you can get that the kid enjoys – Mainland munchables are a big hit – I have even taken some of these to work to supplement the cheese sandwich! The good thing is that there are many different varieties so the kid doesn’t get sick of the same one and there are just enough lollies to make him open the packet but not gorge on the contents.
