Super dooper super foods
Have you ever heard the term ‘super foods’ and are wondering what it is? What are super foods? Are super foods really super and why? The term is used a lot lately and it is basically a food that has a string of amazing nutrient properties. We all want extra vitamins and nutrients in our diet and eating a super food can help pack a vitamin punch quicker. With winter looming, good nutrition is even more important for fighting off viruses. There are many super foods out there but let’s learn a little more about three of them; Chia, Quinoa and Blueberries.
Chia
Adored by ancient South American civilizations for its powers of strength, chia (pronounced Chee-ah) has been grown for use as food and medicine for thousands of years. Chia seeds have 6 times more calcium than milk, 7 times more vitamin c than oranges, 3 times more iron than spinach, a great source of vitamin B and so many more great properties. This little seed is perfect for vegans and those on strict diets as it provides many essential nutrients. There are many ways to enjoy the benefits of Chia seed but the easiest way is to sprinkle it on your cereal or on your yoghurt.

How do you like to get extra nutrients in your diet?
It’s that time of year again when I manage to get out in the garden and see what the summer has done to destroy and or encourage my plants to stay with the family for another year. The summer we had in Melbourne gave weather that was either very hot or very wet. Therefore there have been some plants that have curled up and said “no, I can’t survive another year here” and others that have rejoiced in the almost tropical (I wish!) environment.
It’s Coeliac awareness week and Coles is a proud sponsor of the Coeliac Awareness Fund. Coeliac disease is the most common hereditary autoimmune disease in the world today and affects 1 in 100 people. Many people don’t realise that they are affected with this condition however symptoms can include constipation, vomiting, chronic diarrhoea, weight loss as well as abdominal pain and bloating.
For six years, thirty-three days and forty-five minutes I waited patiently for my boyfriend (now husband) to propose. It certainly put an immediate stop to “when are you two getting married?” but it hasn’t seemed to stop the constant “when are you two going to have a baby?” and while I’m not having a baby just yet…I seem to have reached that age where every one of my friends is having a baby. In the last six months I’ve been to 14 baby showers!
